Disney x Gucci for Lunar New Year

During Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2019 runway show, onlookers marvelled at a US$4,500 3-D printed Mickey Mouse bag sighting. Since then, we all wondered if this decades-old childhood icon might make a come back.

And of course, true to my prediction, as we entered the year of Mouse according to the traditional Chinese calendar and with Lunar New Year’s just around the corner, Disney joined forces with Gucci to release a playful collection features Disney’s biggest star: Mickey Mouse. It also includes a wide variety of trendy clothing, outerwear, accessories, shoes and more.

The collaboration has also been supported by a lighthearted, vintage inspired ad campaign which is set in the Disney theme park in California, reviving our childhood dream of visiting Disneyland.

Interesting point I’ve noticed from The Walt Disney Company – despite being almost a century old, the brand managed to stay culturally relevant. From Baby Boomers to Generation-Z, we all have a childhood memory with Mickey Mouse. Disney characters are still vividly engraved within our daily lives in this new decade, from stationery to fashion. For those who use an Apple computer, try rolling your mouse cursor to any blue text in this article, you’ll see Mickey’s glove appears.
